Description
Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, also known as Amritsar Air Force Station, is an international airport serving Amritsar, Punjab, India. Established in 1930 during the British era, it was initially used for VVIP movements. After India's independence, it became connected with Delhi and Srinagar, and the first international flight to Kabul was launched in 1960. The airport functions as a dual-use facility, serving both civilian and military operations. It is home to Amritsar Air Force Station, which is a deployment location for the Indian Air Force and hosts No. 1 Forward Base Support Unit as part of Western Air Command. The airport's runway is equipped with CAT III-B ILS, allowing aircraft landings in low visibility conditions. The integrated terminal building, completed in phases with the latest inaugurated in 2009, has an area of approximately 40,175 square metres and an annual capacity of 2.5 million passengers. It features modern amenities including jetbridges, check-in counters, immigration and customs facilities, and baggage systems. The apron has been extended to accommodate 25 aircraft.
