Description
Anshan Teng'ao Airport, also known as Anshan Air Base, is a civil-military airport located in Teng'ao Town, Qianshan District, Anshan, Liaoning, China. It serves the city of Anshan and functions as a People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) installation within the Northern Theater Command Air Force. Commercial flights at the airport began in 1987, ceased in 2002, and resumed in April 2011. The airport currently serves as the headquarters of the 1st Fighter Brigade, which operates Chengdu J-20 stealth fighters. Historically, during the Korean War, the Soviet Air Forces' 64th Fighter Aviation Corps was stationed at Anshan Air Base. This corps included the 351st Fighter Aviation Regiment, which operated MiG-15 and Lavochkin La-11 aircraft, and was involved in the aerial defense of North Korea against United States Air Force aircraft in the area known as MiG Alley.
