Description

Battle Creek Executive Airport at Kellogg Field, formerly W. K. Kellogg Airport, is a joint civil-military airport located three nautical miles west of Battle Creek, Michigan. The airport opened in 1925, initially owned by W.K. Kellogg, who provided funding for its establishment and improvements. It received its first air mail flight in 1928 and regular passenger service in 1929. In 1935, it installed Michigan's first air traffic control tower outside Detroit. During World War II, the airfield was utilized by the United States Army Air Forces, hosting the 394th Bombardment Group for training in 1943 before their overseas deployment. In 1947, it became the base for the 172nd Fighter Squadron of the Michigan Air National Guard.

The airport serves general aviation, air cargo, and corporate flight operations. It is home to Western Michigan University College of Aviation, Duncan Aviation, WACO Classic Aircraft Corporation, and SEMCO Energy Gas Company. The Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival is held annually at the airport. A portion of the airport functions as a military installation, Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, which is home to the 110th Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard. The 110th Wing operates MQ-9 Reaper military drones. The airport covers 1,500 acres at an elevation of 290 meters (952 feet) above mean sea level. It features three asphalt runways: 05L/23R (3,049 m x 46 m), 05R/23L (1,250 m x 23 m, opened in 2011), and 13/31 (1,474 m x 30 m). In 2019, WACO Aircraft Co. and Western Michigan University's College of Aviation announced expansion plans at the airport, including new facilities and an aerospace engineering department.
