Description
Bengbu Airport, located in Bengbu, Anhui Province, China, is a dual-use facility serving both military and civil purposes. Its history involves a relocation from an older site that was too close to the expanding urban area of Bengbu, posing issues for city development and flight safety. In 1995, the city government initiated efforts to relocate the airport. An agreement was subsequently reached between the Anhui provincial government and the Nanjing Military Region for the construction of a new airport. Land acquisition for the new site, near Renheji village in Qinji Township, began in 1997. The new airport commenced military operations in August 2002. While provisions have been made for future civilian use, the construction of civilian facilities has not yet begun.
