Description
Shenyang Dongta Airport (ICAO: ZYYY) is a military air base located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China.
The air base was originally established in 1921. It underwent expansion in 1928, which included the construction of a concrete runway. The facility was occupied by Japanese forces in 1931 and later captured by Soviet forces in 1945. Following the Korean War, it served as a People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) base, housing fighter units equipped with aircraft such as the MiG-15.
In 1950, the airport was converted to dual-use military and civilian operations, serving as the primary airport for Shenyang and a hub for the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Over the subsequent decades, its infrastructure was expanded with additional terminal buildings, hangars, and navigation systems to support growing passenger and cargo traffic.
On 16 April 1989, all civilian air traffic was transferred to the newly constructed Shenyang Taoxian International Airport. Dongta Airport then reverted to its status as a dedicated military air base. Its primary infrastructure consists of a single concrete runway, designated 06/24, with a length of 2,400 meters.
