Description

Hòa Lạc Air Base is a Vietnam Air Defence - Air Force (VADAF) military facility located approximately 24 kilometers west of Hanoi. Established in 1967, the airfield commenced operations in February of that year. During the Vietnam War, the base functioned as an operational site for MiG-17 fighter aircraft. The installation was first targeted by United States Air Force strikes in May 1967. On December 18, 1972, the airfield was targeted during the opening night of Operation Linebacker II as part of efforts to suppress interceptor aircraft.

The facility currently operates as a military heliport under the control of the VADAF. It hosts the 916th Helicopter Squadron, which operates Mi-171 aircraft.
