Description

Dandong Langtou Airport, also known historically as Antung Airfield, is an airport serving Dandong, Liaoning, China. During the Korean War, Antung Airfield functioned as a major base for People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) and Korean People's Air Force (KPAF) fighters. Its strategic location was utilized for the defense of supply lines across the Yalu River to Sinuiju and for engaging United States Air Force (USAF) aircraft in the area known as MiG Alley. By November 1950, reconnaissance indicated the presence of a 6,000 feet (1,800 m) concrete runway with hard-surfaced taxiways. In March 1951, at least 75 MiG-15s were stationed at Antung. Civil operations officially commenced on April 29, 1985. The airport underwent its first renovation on June 18, 1993, after which it was categorized as a Category 4C airport by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). A new 20,000 square meter terminal was opened on April 17, 2014, which included an expanded apron and parking facilities, increasing its passenger capacity to 2 million per year. The airport currently operates with civil airlines providing passenger services.
