Description
Luliang Air Base is a People's Liberation Army Air Force Base situated approximately 5 kilometers southwest of Luliang in Yunnan Province, China. During World War II, from September 1944 until October 1945, the base was utilized by the United States Army Air Forces' Fourteenth Air Force as part of the China Defensive Campaign. It served as the primary station for the 23d Fighter Group (Flying Tigers) and its command and control organization, the 68th Composite Wing. Additionally, secondary USAAF units, including P-38 Lightning reconnaissance aircraft for photo-recon missions and C-47 Skytrain transports for personnel, material movement, and casualty evacuation, operated from the base. American facilities at Luliang were closed following the end of the war in October 1945. Currently, it functions as a military air base under the People's Liberation Army Air Force.
