Description
Malmen Airbase is located in Malmslätt, Linköping Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden. Established in 1912 by Carl Cederström, the facility initially operated with three aircraft. Between 1926 and 1974, the installation served as the station for the Östgöta Wing (F 3). Following the decommissioning of F 3, administration of the base transferred to the Bråvalla Wing (F 13) and subsequently the Uppland Wing (F 16). In 1998, the site became the primary base for the Swedish Armed Forces Helicopter Wing.
The Swedish Air Force operates the facility, which continues to host the Swedish Armed Forces Helicopter Wing. Since 2003, the base has also hosted the Royal Swedish Airschool. This unit operates Sk 60 jet trainers to provide pilot instruction.
Infrastructure at the installation includes two asphalt runways and the Swedish Air Force Museum. The base supports the operations of the helicopter units and the training aircraft of the Royal Swedish Airschool.
