Description
Manachim Airbase, also known as Rosh Pina Airport or Mahanayim Airport, is located in Rosh Pinna near the Safed-Hatzor-Rosh Pina Industrial Park, 16 km from Safed and 30 km from Kiryat Shmona. Established in 1943 during the British Mandate for Palestine as RAF Station Machanaim, the facility was constructed by British forces and utilized during operations against Vichy France in Syria. Following the British evacuation in 1948, the installation was transferred to the Israeli Air Force.
The Israel Airports Authority operates the facility. While it previously hosted scheduled commercial services by Arkia and Ayit Aviation, there are currently no scheduled civilian flights following the closure of Sde Dov Airport in 2019. Military operations include use by the Israeli Air Force. Infrastructure includes a passenger terminal constructed in 1968 and expanded in 1994, as well as a control tower and fire station erected in 1971.
