Description
Dehong Mangshi International Airport, located in Mangshi, Dehong, Yunnan, China, was originally opened in 1940 during the Second Sino-Japanese War with a 1,900-meter runway. During this period, aircraft such as P-40, C-46, and C-47 landed there for military purposes. After 1945, the airport was deserted. In 1985, the Dehong prefectural government proposed its reconstruction, which was approved by the China central government in 1987. Reconstruction began in 1988, and the airport reopened in 1990 with a 2,200-meter runway, offering public flights. The airport was renamed Dehong Mangshi Airport by the CAAC in 2003. Expansion projects occurred between 2006 and 2009, including terminal renovation and the addition of two airbridges. It was upgraded to an international airport in 2016, leading to a second round of expansion. In 2018, this expansion concluded, and the runway was extended to 2,600 meters.
