Description
The facility is located in Gwadar Tehsil, Makran Division, Balochistan, 14 kilometers north of Gwadar city center. The Government of Pakistan acquired the territory from the Sultan of Muscat in 1958, and air operations at the site began in 1966. The facility was designated an international airport with the initiation of flights connecting Karachi and Muscat.
The site is owned by the Government of Pakistan Aviation Division and was operated by the Pakistan Airports Authority. It is categorized as a joint-use airport. On January 20, 2025, the facility was closed to all scheduled and non-scheduled civilian air traffic following the commencement of operations at the New Gwadar International Airport.
Infrastructure at the site consists of a terminal building inaugurated in 1984, and Departure and VIP lounges inaugurated in 2008.
