Description
PAF Base Nur Khan, also referred to as PAF Base Islamabad, is located at the site of the former Benazir Bhutto International Airport. The facility transitioned to its current military role following the transfer of commercial aviation operations to the new Islamabad International Airport in May 2018.
The site previously served as the primary civil aviation hub for the Islamabad–Rawalpindi metropolitan area. It was the second-busiest airport in Pakistan prior to its replacement, with passenger growth reaching 14 percent annually compared to a national growth rate of 4 percent. The facility was dedicated to military use after the new regional airport commenced full operations on 6 May 2018.
