Description
PAF Base Korangi Creek is located in the Korangi Creek Cantonment of Karachi, Sindh. The Royal Air Force (RAF) established the site in 1923 to support civil and military amphibious aircraft operations and cargo handling. In 1942, the RAF secured the station after leasing 1,007 acres from the Government of Sindh. During this period, the base functioned as a logistics hub for the aircraft repair depot at RAF Drigh Road, facilitating the transfer of engines and spare parts. The station headquarters closed in April 1946, though the RAF maintained command until 1949.
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) assumed control in December 1949, appointing Wing Commander A.R.K. Malik as the first station commander. The base transitioned into a technical training facility for officers and airmen. The School of Aeronautics (SOA) was established on-site in April 1951. In 1963, the School of Electronics (SOE) was relocated from PAF Station Malir to Korangi Creek.
Current operations focus on technical education and aerospace development. The base hosts the SOA and SOE, providing technical training and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) qualification courses for technicians. The installation serves as a center for the research and development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and aerospace technologies. These activities involve Integrated Defence Systems (IDS) and scientists from the College of Aeronautical Engineering and the Pakistan Navy Engineering College. The base is classified as a non-flying station.
