Description
Begum Nusrat Bhutto International Airport, formerly known as Sukkur Aerodrome, is located eight kilometers from the center of Sukkur in Sindh, Pakistan. The facility was established in 1942 as a military airfield by the British Raj. It was renamed Sukkur Airport in 1980 and received its current designation in 2012.
The airport is a joint military and public facility operated by the Pakistan Airports Authority. It serves as the primary alternative to Jinnah International Airport in Karachi for diverted domestic and international flights. The Pakistan Air Force maintains installations at the site, including hangars and electronic warfare radar equipment. Scheduled commercial operations are conducted by Pakistan International Airlines with service to Islamabad and Karachi.
Infrastructure consists of a runway, taxiways, an apron, and a terminal building. The airfield is configured for both turboprop and jet aircraft. In addition to regular commercial and military use, the facility supports seasonal Hajj flight operations to Jeddah and Medina. It provides regional aviation services for the districts of Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Sibi, and Shikarpur.
