Description
RAAF Base Glenbrook is located in Glenbrook, New South Wales, approximately 60 kilometres west of Sydney in the Lower Blue Mountains. Established in 1948, the 28-hectare base occupies a site used during World War II to coordinate the stockpiling of mustard gas in the disused Glenbrook railway tunnel. The base includes heritage-listed structures, such as the Officers' Mess, which was previously the Lapstone Hotel.
The Royal Australian Air Force operates the base, which houses Headquarters Air Command and No. 323 Squadron of the Australian Air Force Cadets. Administrative services for the installation are primarily managed through RAAF Base Richmond.
The facility does not contain a fixed-wing airfield. Infrastructure includes a helicopter landing site with an asphalt surface.
