Description

Recife Air Force Base (Base Aérea de Recife – BARF) is located in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, situated 14 km from the city center. The Brazilian Air Force established the facility on 24 July 1941 through Decree 3,459. The installation shared infrastructure with the Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport.

The base was officially decommissioned on 24 July 2024, with its assets incorporated into CINDACTA III. Prior to its decommissioning, the facility functioned as a support site for air units of the Brazilian Air Force, Brazilian Navy, and Brazilian Army. The base had no permanent flying units assigned to it after January 2017.

Historically, the base hosted the 2nd Squadron of Air Transportation (2°ETA), designated Pastor, from May 1969 until January 2018, when the unit relocated to Natal Air Force Base. Aircraft types operated from or hosted at the facility included the Douglas C-47 Dakota, Embraer C-95B Bandeirante, Embraer C-97 Brasília, and Cessna C-98A Caravan. A Boeing SB-17G Flying Fortress is maintained at the site as a static display.
