Description
Salvador Air Force Base (Base Aérea de Salvador - BASV) is located in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, 28 km from the city center. Initial construction of the site occurred in 1925, and the base was formally established on 5 November 1942.
The facility is owned and controlled by the Brazilian Air Force. Since January 2017, the base has had no permanent flying units assigned. It functions as a support installation for air units from the Brazilian Air Force, Navy, and Army.
The base shares facilities with Salvador Bahia Airport (Dep. Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport). It previously hosted the 1st Squadron of the 7th Aviation Group (1°/7°GAv) Orungan between March 1947 and January 2018. Aircraft types hosted at the base include the Embraer P-95B Bandeirulha and the Lockheed P-3AM Orion.
