Description
Santos Air Force Base (Base Aérea de Santos) is a Brazilian Air Force installation located in Guarujá, São Paulo. The facility was established in 1922 and has been operated by the Brazilian Air Force since 1941. It is situated 9 km from downtown Guarujá and 17 km from downtown Santos.
The base is owned and controlled by the Brazilian Air Force. Since January 2017, no permanent flying units have been assigned to the installation. The base currently serves as a support facility for air units of the Brazilian Air Force, Brazilian Navy, and Brazilian Army.
From 1979 to 2006, the base hosted the 1st Squadron of the 11th Aviation Group (1º/11ºGAv), designated the Gavião Squadron. This unit operated Helibrás H-50 Esquilo aircraft before its relocation to Natal Air Force Base.
