Description

Sde Dov Airbase, also known as Dov Hoz Airport, was located in Tel Aviv, Israel, north of the Yarkon River. Established in September 1938 by British Mandate authorities at the request of Tel Aviv Mayor Israel Rokach, the site provided an alternative to Lydda airport during the 1936–1939 Arab revolt. The facility was named in 1940 after aviation pioneer Dov Hoz. Following a period of use as a British Army base, the site was reopened by the Haganah in December 1947.

During the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, the base served as a primary installation for the Israeli Air Force (IAF) and hosted 21 aircraft. The first military flight from the location was conducted in December 1947 by an RWD-13. Following the war, the military utilized the base on a regular basis for domestic operations and transport.

Infrastructure at the facility included two terminals and 45 aircraft stands. The IAF accounted for approximately 40% of total aircraft movements, using the base for military operations and as a hub for government and military passenger traffic. Due to its location, the base's air traffic control also managed crossing traffic for aircraft traveling between northern and southern Israel.

Sde Dov ceased all operations on June 30, 2019. Military units and flight operations were transferred to other IAF bases, while commercial activity moved to Ben Gurion Airport. Demolition of the airport structures was completed in early 2020 to prepare the site for residential and commercial redevelopment. The air traffic control tower was preserved as a historic building.
