Description
Shantou Waisha Airport is a People's Liberation Army Air Force Base situated in Longhu District, Shantou, Guangdong province, China. It was constructed in 1956 as a military airfield. On April 15, 1974, the airport began operating for commercial air carriers, serving as the city's civilian airport alongside its military role. Civilian passenger services ceased on December 15, 2011, with all commercial flights being transferred to the newly-built Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport. The airport is owned by the People's Liberation Army and operated by the People's Liberation Army Air Force.
