Description
Rikaze Peace Airport, also known as Shigatse Heping Airport or Shigatse Air Base, is a dual-use military and civilian airport located in Jangdam Township, 43 kilometers from Shigatse, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. Construction of the airport began in 1968 and was completed in 1973, serving exclusively military purposes until 2010. Following a 532 million yuan expansion, it was opened for public use on October 30, 2010, becoming the fifth civilian airport in Tibet. The airport features a 5,000-meter concrete runway (09/27) and a newer 3,000-meter concrete runway (07/25), constructed around 2017. Guizhou WZ-7 Soaring Dragon UAVs have been observed operating from the newer runway. The airport includes a 4,500-square-meter terminal building.
