Description
São Paulo Air Force Base (Base Aérea de São Paulo – BASP) is a Brazilian Air Force installation located in Guarulhos, 25 kilometers from downtown São Paulo. Established on 22 May 1941 by Decree 3,302, the base was originally situated at Campo de Marte Airport. On 26 January 1945, operations were transferred to the present location, then known as Cumbica Farm.
The base is owned and operated by the Brazilian Air Force and shares infrastructure with the Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport. Since January 2017, no permanent flying units have been assigned to the facility. The installation currently functions as a support facility for air units of the Brazilian Air Force, Navy, and Army.
Historically, the base hosted the 4th Squadron of Air Transportation (4°ETA), known as Carajá, from May 1969 until January 2018. The squadron operated Embraer C-95B Bandeirante and Embraer C-97 Brasília aircraft. Following the deactivation of the 4°ETA in January 2018, its personnel and aircraft were transferred to the 3rd Squadron of Air Transportation (3°ETA) at Santa Cruz Air Force Base.
