Description
Tabriz Air Base is located in Tabriz, East Azerbaijan province, in northwestern Iran. The facility is a dual-use installation comprising Shahid Madani International Airport and a military base. It is operated by the Iran Airports Company and the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force.
The base hosts Tactical Air Base 2 of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force. Operations at the site include the deployment and maintenance of military aircraft alongside domestic and international civilian flight services. On 13 June 2025, the base was the target of Israeli airstrikes during Operation Rising Lion. These strikes focused on military aircraft and hangars, resulting in a closure of the facility that lasted 23 days. The installation resumed both military and civilian operations on 5 July 2025.
Infrastructure at the site includes military aircraft hangars and a runway system shared between Tactical Air Base 2 and commercial aviation. The base provides facilities for various Iranian and international carriers, including ATA Airlines, Iran Airtour, and Azerbaijan Airlines.
