Description
Wuhu Wanli Airport, also known as Wuhu Air Base, is a military air base operated by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) in Wuhu, Anhui Province, China. It was constructed in 1934 to counter Imperial Japanese aggressions. During the initial battles of World War II in Asia, including the Battle of Shanghai, Battle of Taiyuan, and Battle of Nanjing, it served as a staging location for the Republic-era Chinese Air Force to launch air strikes and conduct combat air patrols against Japanese positions. In 2019, the base underwent preparations for the 9th Fighter Brigade's integration of the Chengdu J-20 stealth fighter, which involved the construction of 26 new hangars. Wuhu Air Base also accommodates PLAAF's No. 5720 factory.
