Description
Beijing Xijiao Airport is a military airport located in Haidian District, Beijing, China. It was also used for charter flights. The airport was constructed in 1938 by the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Following Japan's surrender in 1945, its ownership was transferred to the Nationalist government. In January 1949, the North China Aviation Bureau of the People's Liberation Army assumed management of the airport, establishing the North China Air Transportation Brigade, which included former Republic of China Air Force pilots. The airport is currently occupied by the People's Liberation Army Air Force. For the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, all aircraft participating in the flyover of Tiananmen took off from Xijiao Airport before landing at Beijing Nanyuan Airport.
