Description
Yiwu Airport is a dual-use military and civil airport located 5.5 km northwest of Yiwu and 51 km from Jinhua in Zhejiang province, China. It was originally a military training airfield for the People's Liberation Army Navy. In 1988, the national government approved its conversion to a dual-use facility. The airport commenced civilian operations on April 1, 1991. It underwent an expansion from December 1993 to December 1994, and a second expansion began in 2006, leading to the opening of a new terminal building in April 2009. In 2015, construction started to extend the runway by 500 meters and add a parallel taxiway. The new 3,000-meter runway opened on November 13, 2017, classifying the airport as Class 4D. A new international terminal, including additional aircraft parking bays and infrastructure, began construction in January 2012 and opened in 2014.
