Flag of Morocco

This rectangular flag features a solid red field with a 2:3 aspect ratio. Centered on the background is a green five-pointed star, known as a pentagram, which is rendered with interlaced lines. No other emblems or patterns appear on the design.

The deep red background represents the royal Alaouite dynasty and signifies national strength and valor. Green is the traditional color of Islam, used here to highlight the religious heritage of the Moroccan people. The five-pointed star, often referred to as the Seal of Solomon, represents the five pillars of Islam and symbolizes the connection between the creator and the nation.

Historically, Morocco utilized a plain red banner associated with the ruling Alaouite dynasty since the 17th century. On November 17, 1915, Sultan Mulay Yusef issued a decree adding the green pentagram to distinguish the national ensign from other similar red flags. This design remained in use throughout the French and Spanish protectorate eras and was officially retained upon independence in 1956.
