Symbolism
Each color in the Seychelles flag is intended to represent different aspects of the nation's identity and future. Blue signifies the sea and sky surrounding the islands. Yellow represents the sun, which gives life. Red symbolizes the people's determination to work for the future in unity and love. White embodies social justice and harmony, while green stands for the land and natural environment.
History
The current flag of Seychelles was officially adopted on January 8, 1996. It replaced a previous flag adopted in 1977 after independence, which featured red, white, and green. The change in 1996 was part of a broader effort to symbolize national unity and a fresh start for the country after a period of political transition.
