History
The flag was officially adopted in 1964, following the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. It is a composite of the flags of the two former countries. Tanganyika's flag was green with a black stripe, while Zanzibar's was blue. The combined design aimed to symbolize the unity of the newly formed nation.
