Flag of Ukraine

Ukraine's flag features two equally sized horizontal bands. The upper band is a vibrant blue, while the lower band is a bright yellow. This simple design creates a striking and easily recognizable emblem for the nation.

The blue in the Ukrainian flag is widely understood to represent the sky, symbolizing peace and tranquility. Conversely, the yellow represents fields of wheat, a crucial agricultural product and a symbol of prosperity for the nation. Together, these colors evoke the vast Ukrainian landscape and the country's agricultural heritage, reflecting hope for the future.

The current flag of Ukraine was officially adopted on January 28, 1992, shortly after the country gained independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Though officially adopted in 1992, the blue and yellow bicolour has a long history as a national symbol, dating back to at least the 1848 Spring of Nations. This flag was briefly used during Ukraine's short-lived independence between 1917 and 1921, before being suppressed under Soviet rule.
