Missile Dongfeng DF-27
Description
The DF-27, also designated CSS-X-24, was first identified in the 2021 United States Department of Defense China Military Power Report as a system under development. It is classified as an intermediate-range ballistic missile.
The missile utilizes solid propellant and is configured to carry conventional, nuclear, or hypersonic warheads. It is integrated with a hypersonic glide vehicle, enabling maneuverability during flight. The system does not possess Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) capabilities. Variants are produced for both land-attack and anti-ship missions. The system is designed to penetrate ballistic missile defenses and engage naval vessels or land-based targets.
The DF-27 entered service with the People's Republic of China in 2021. A flight test was conducted on February 25, 2023, during which the missile was airborne for 12 minutes. The system is currently in service and is deployed in limited numbers.
