Missile SAM-2
Description
Development of the SAM-2 began in mid-2003. The project was initiated to transition the system to a new proprietary engine, replacing previous iterations. Although initially scheduled for a 2004 release, the development timeline was extended, leading to an official announcement in April 2005 and subsequent deployment in October 2005.
The SAM-2 utilizes the Serious Engine 2, which incorporates high dynamic range rendering, light bloom, and refraction effects. The system's armament consists of various projectile and energy weapons. Standard ordnance includes rocket launchers, grenade launchers, miniguns, and 12-gauge sawed-off shotguns. The Serious Bomb is the primary high-yield weapon, capable of neutralizing all targets within the operator's vicinity through a localized "miniature big bang." The operator is shielded from the blast by a Life-Preserving-Quantum-Field. Specialized weapons include the Hydro-Plasmatic Handgun, which fires energy units and features a self-directing guidance mode, and the Clawdovic Cacadoos Vulgaris, a biological delivery system that carries an explosive payload to a target. The system also integrates mobile platforms, including hover bikes and saucers equipped with laser turrets, machine guns, and rocket launchers.
The SAM-2 was deployed on Windows and Xbox platforms, with the North American release occurring on 11 October 2005. It was later made available via Steam in January 2012. The system is utilized in both single-operator and multi-operator modes, supporting cooperative engagement for up to sixteen personnel on PC and four on Xbox. Combat operations are documented across five planetary environments, including Sirius and its moon, Kronor, in an ongoing conflict against extraterrestrial forces. While official online support for the Xbox platform was terminated on 15 April 2010, third-party services have since restored multiplayer functionality.
