Description
Sunk on 3 March 2022 by a Russian Kh-31 anti-ship missile while conducting reconnaissance and patrol missions near the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhne. Formerly USCGC Cushing, the Island-class patrol boat was transferred to Ukraine in 2019 as part of a U.S. security assistance package. At 34 metres and 168 tonnes, the lightly armed cutter was not designed for contested naval combat. Her loss highlighted the vulnerability of small patrol vessels operating without air cover in the Black Sea.
