Description
Flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, struck by two Ukrainian R-360 Neptune anti-ship missiles on 14 April 2022 while operating approximately 60 nautical miles south of Odesa. The missiles triggered an ammunition fire that detonated onboard magazines. The crew abandoned ship, and Moskva sank under tow the following day. At 12,490 tonnes, she was the largest warship sunk in combat since the Falklands War and the first cruiser lost since World War II. Commissioned in 1983 as Slava, the guided missile cruiser carried 16 P-1000 Vulkan anti-ship missiles and served as the fleet's primary air defense command platform.
