Description
Karakurt-class (Project 22800) small missile ship Askold destroyed on 4 November 2023 by Ukrainian cruise missiles at the Zalyv shipbuilding yard in Kerch, Crimea. Satellite imagery showed extensive damage to the port side, superstructure, and radar arrays. President Zelensky confirmed the strike. The vessel had not yet been formally commissioned and was undergoing fitting out. Capable of carrying eight Kalibr cruise missiles, Askold would have been the newest addition to the Black Sea Fleet's shrinking strike capability. Her destruction before entering service represented a significant blow to Russian naval construction.
