Description
Improved Kilo-class (Project 636.3) submarine destroyed on 2 August 2024 by ATACMS missile strikes while berthed in Sevastopol, sinking at her mooring. The vessel had been undergoing repairs since sustaining severe damage in the September 2023 Storm Shadow strike on Sevmorzavod shipyard. The UK Ministry of Defence assessed Rostov-on-Don as "highly likely" sunk. Commissioned in 2014, the 3,950-tonne submarine was armed with Kalibr cruise missiles and had conducted combat patrols in the Mediterranean and launched strikes against targets in Syria and Ukraine. Estimated loss approximately $300 million.
