Description
Commissioned in March 2025 and assigned to the South Sea Fleet, Weinan became approximately the 30th Type 052D destroyer in PLAN service. The pennant number 166 was previously carried by the retired Luhai-class destroyer Zhuhai. The Type 052D is the backbone of the modern PLAN surface fleet, displacing 7,500 tonnes and armed with 64 vertical launch cells for HHQ-9 surface-to-air missiles and YJ-18 anti-ship cruise missiles. Weinan's commissioning continued the rapid production pace that has averaged six to seven Type 052D hulls per year.
