Description
Former Belgian Navy minehunter BNS Narcis (M923), transferred to the Ukrainian Navy and renamed Mariupol during a ceremony at Zeebrugge naval base on 27 June 2025. The transfer took place alongside the Dutch HNLMS Vlaardingen, renamed Melitopol, as part of a joint Belgian-Dutch mine countermeasures support package. Built in 1990 as part of the Tripartite minehunter programme jointly developed by Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, the 605-tonne vessel is equipped with hull-mounted sonar and PAP 104 mine disposal drones. Named after the occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol, the ship bolsters Ukraine's mine countermeasures capability for Black Sea demining.
