Iran Makran Fleet Update

Struck by U.S. missiles while moored at the southern pier of Bandar Abbas Naval Base on 1 March 2026. Satellite imagery from Planet Labs showed the vessel ablaze with thick black smoke rising from the hull. Iran's first forward base ship, Makran was originally a Japanese-built Aframax crude oil tanker converted at ISOICO shipyard. Commissioned in January 2021, the 228-metre vessel featured a flight deck for up to seven helicopters and drone launch platforms for Indian Ocean and Red Sea deployments.
