Description

The Type 095, designated 09-V by the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), is a class of third-generation nuclear-powered attack submarines. It succeeds the Type 093 class. The China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation conducts construction at the Bohai Shipyard in Huludao, Liaoning province.

The design incorporates an improved hull intended to reduce the vessel's acoustic signature compared to the Type 093. The class utilizes an advanced nuclear reactor and includes vertical launch system (VLS) cells. The sensor suite consists of active and passive flank array sonars along with low- and high-frequency towed sonar arrays.

At least one vessel is currently under construction. Operational plans for the Type 095 include acting as an underwater escort for aircraft carrier task forces.
