Description
On August 2, 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) received its 16th Airbus C295 tactical transport aircraft, marking the completion of the fly-away portion of the 2021 contract for 56 units. This final Spanish-built delivery transitions the program toward domestic production of the remaining 40 aircraft in Vadodara. Technically, the C295 replaces the legacy HS-748 Avro fleet, providing a 9-ton payload capacity, 11-hour endurance, and a rear-loading ramp. These features significantly enhance the IAF's tactical airlift, high-altitude logistics, and rapid troop deployment capabilities. The first indigenous C295 is scheduled for rollout in September 2026.
