Description
On August 28, 2025, the Romanian Air Force expanded its combat fleet with the delivery of three additional Lockheed Martin F-16AM/BM Fighting Falcon jets from Norway. Arriving at the 86th Air Base Borcea, these aircraft represent a +3 increase in active inventory and a -3 change in the outstanding order of 32 units. Technically, these fighters are upgraded to the M6.5.2 standard, featuring Mid-Life Update (MLU) avionics, Link 16 datalinks, and Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-220 engines. This delivery is a critical step in replacing retired MiG-21 LanceR platforms, providing a modernized multirole capability until Romania integrates fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighters starting in 2030.
