Description
On October 20, 2025, the Swedish Air Force officially received its first JAS 39 Gripen E fighter aircraft during a handover ceremony at Skaraborg's F7 air base in Såtenäs, attended by Defence Minister Pål Jonson. This marks the beginning of Sweden's transition to the advanced Gripen E variant, which features the GE F414G engine providing 20% more thrust, a new AESA radar, IRST system, and enhanced electronic warfare capabilities. The aircraft is the first of 60 planned deliveries under a 2013 agreement valued at approximately SEK 47 billion. Deliveries will continue through the late 2020s as Sweden modernizes its fighter fleet.
