Description

Ablitas Military Airfield is located in Ablitas, Navarra, Spain. The facility was established during the Spanish Civil War and is currently operated by the Spanish Air Force, which maintains a permanent detachment at the site. The airfield is the only installation in the Spanish Air Force inventory that utilizes an unpaved runway. Due to this capability, the airfield was used in 2013 for landing and takeoff testing of the Airbus A400M on unpaved surfaces. Historical flight safety incidents at the facility include a 1982 takeoff accident involving a Piper PA-60 Aerostar and a fatal crash involving a Mudry CAP 10 in 1997.
