Description
Base Marambio is an Argentine military and research station located on Seymour Island (Marambio Island) in the Antarctic Peninsula region. Established in 1969, it is one of Argentina's most important Antarctic bases and serves as a key logistics hub for the country's Antarctic operations.
The base features a 1,200-meter gravel runway, one of the few operational airstrips in Antarctica. It is operated by the Argentine Air Force and supports year-round scientific research, military logistics, and supply flights connecting the Antarctic with mainland Argentina. The base typically houses around 55 personnel in winter and up to 150 during the summer season.
Base Marambio plays a central role in Argentina's Antarctic program and serves as the primary air gateway for Argentine operations on the continent.
