Description
Brest Airport is located 15 km east of the city center of Brest, Belarus, situated between the village of Shebrin and the M1 highway. Established in September 1945, the facility originally operated from a site on the Kamieniec Highway before the construction of a new complex at the current location began in the early 1970s. The first phase of the current airport opened in 1976, marked by the landing of a Tupolev Tu-134A on July 30. The terminal complex was commissioned on October 15, 1986, and the facility was granted international status on May 19, 1993.
The airport is one of seven international airports in Belarus and operates as a hub for scheduled, charter, and cargo flights. It is situated near the border of the European Union and serves as a gateway to Grodno and a starting point for the Russian railway corridor. Belavia operates regular flights to Moscow and Saint Petersburg, alongside seasonal charter services to Antalya and Sharm El Sheikh.
Infrastructure includes a passenger terminal designed with three interconnected volumes for operations, dining, and administration. The terminal houses customs, border police, and a health checkpoint. The building is part of the Brest Free Economic Zone. The facility features ten aircraft parking stands and a temporary storage customs warehouse. Support facilities include a 50-bed hotel for flight crews, fuel tankers, and de-icing equipment. The airport is equipped for 24-hour operations and hosts various aircraft types, including the Antonov An-124, Ilyushin Il-76, Boeing 767, and Airbus A310. Modernization projects completed between 2017 and 2018 included the installation of new lighting and signaling equipment and the replacement of asphalt-concrete surfaces on the apron and parking areas.
