Description
Jorge Wilstermann International Airport is located in Cochabamba, the capital of the Cochabamba Department of Bolivia. The facility is named after Jorge Wilstermann, an early commercial aviator. Originally established with a terminal on Guillermo Killman Avenue, the site underwent an expansion program beginning in 1988. This project resulted in a new runway that entered operation in 1990 and a new air terminal inaugurated in 1997.
Management of the facility was awarded to Airport Group International under a 25-year contract in 1997. Control subsequently passed to TBI plc in 1999 and Abertis/AENA in 2004. The Bolivian government nationalized the operating entity, SABSA, in 2013. Since March 2022, the state-owned agency Navegación Aérea y Aeropuertos Bolivianos (NAABOL) has been responsible for airport management.
The facility serves as the primary domestic hub for Boliviana de Aviación and formerly functioned as the main operations base for Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano. Infrastructure includes an air terminal equipped with boarding bridges and a cargo terminal. The cargo terminal utilizes the original terminal building and houses a Boliviana de Aviación hangar.
