Description
Cozumel International Airport is located on the island of Cozumel in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It serves as a dual-use facility, hosting both international civil aviation and Mexican Air Force operations. The military component of the installation is designated as Air Force Base No. 4 (Base Aérea Militar No. 4 General Eduardo Aldasoro Suárez).
The base is the station for Air Squadron 201, a unit that participated in World War II. Currently, the squadron operates Beechcraft T-6C+ Texan II aircraft. While Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) manages the airport’s commercial and civil traffic, the Mexican Air Force maintains a dedicated presence for military missions in the Caribbean region.
Infrastructure supporting Air Force Base No. 4 includes an aviation platform with five parking positions and a hangar. The facility is equipped with two heliports for rotary-wing operations. The airfield as a whole has the capacity to receive aircraft up to the size of the Boeing 767 and supports 22 operations per hour. Civil infrastructure includes a passenger terminal with eight boarding gates and an apron featuring six aircraft stands configured for type C and type D aircraft. The facility also accommodates executive, charter, and general aviation traffic.
