Debrecen International Airport (Debrecen Nemzetközi Repülőtér)

Debrecen International Airport is located 5 km south-southwest of Debrecen in Hajdú-Bihar County, Hungary. Established in the early 20th century, the facility commenced regular mail flights in 1930. During World War II, the airport served as a base for a Hungarian bombing squad. Between 1946 and 1968, it functioned as an emergency airfield for Budapest.

Following World War II, the Soviet Air Force assumed control of the installation, maintaining a presence until 1990. The 727th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment was stationed at the airfield until 1987. In May 1991, Soviet troops vacated the installation and transferred control to the Hungarian government. The Debrecen Municipal Government acquired the property in 1994 for civilian and commercial development.

The airport is operated by Debrecen International Airport Kft. It hosts a cadet pilot school operated by Pharma-Flight Kft, an organization that also conducts pharmaceutical research and production for aviation personnel. Air carriers operating from the facility include Lufthansa, Smartwings, Israir, and Wizz Air. The latter has utilized the airport as a base for Airbus A320 aircraft.

Infrastructure consists of a concrete runway and an asphalt helipad. A terminal facility is located within an innovation and incubation center on-site. The airport maintains a reconstructed rail connection dedicated to freight operations, while ground transportation for personnel is supported by dedicated bus links to the Debrecen main railway station.
